Three Women’s Tennis Players Recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes

SKILLMAN, NJ – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced the 2015 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athlete award winners.

Three Worcester State Tennis players have been noted as ITA Scholar Athletes for their academic excellence in the 2014-15 academic year. The three honorees include senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, Mass.), junior Cassie Gonclaves (Ludlow, Mass.), and sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, Mass.).

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have participated on the varsity team, maintained a 3.50 grade point average for the current academic year and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

"It's great to see these student athletes get recognized for their work in the classroom,” said Worcester State Tennis Coach, Albana Xhemollari. “In addition to managing their own commitments successfully, these honorees are also setting good example for the underclassmen that both athletics and academics are attainable goals."

Under the guidance of third-year head coach Albana Xhemollari, the Lancers earned an 8-7 winning record, posting their second consecutive winning season.
