Norton, MA --- Freshman Mara Kralian (Grafton, MA) and sophomore Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) each earned a tickets to the New England Division III Regionals as they helped lead the Women’s Indoor Track and Field team to a second place finish at the Wheaton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The host Lyons took first place in the competition with 207 team points while Worcester State earned second as they scored 49 points to edge out Eastern Connecticut State who scored 47. The meet featured competition from 12 schools around the state representing division II and III as twelve WSC athletes placed in the top 10 in twelve of the 16 events scored.
Kralian placed third in the 200 (27.68) to qualify for New England Regionals in her third event this season while she finished off her outstanding day chalking up fourth in the 55 (7.66) and seventh in the long jump (15-06.00).
Ouellette finished fifth in the 55 meter hurdles to set the
standard for the regionals with a time of 9.37 while she also took
third in the triple jump (33-11.25).
First-year Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA)
continued her stellar season as she placed second in the 200
(27.58) and fifth in the 55 (7.67) before she ended the day
finishing ninth in the long jump (14-08.00). Classmate
Maura Withington (Walpole, MA) recorded third in
the 5000 (19:51.73) and 13th in the 800 (2:38.15) while sophomore
Rachel Sullivan (Ipswich, MA) chipped in with
sixth in the 5000 (21:21.80).
Junior Kara Antrim (Rowley, MA) also helped pace
the Lancers as she finished fourth in the 800 (2:27.52) and fifth
in the mile (5:38.46) while freshman Meg Plant
(Franklin, MA) took home ninth in the mile (5:50.70) and 15th in
the 800 (2:38.51).
Sophomore Jill Rollins (Leicester, MA) also had a
good showing as placed third in the weight throw (38-11.50) and
10th (31-04.75) in the shot put. Classmate Christina
Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) brought home sixth (37-08.75)
and 16th (28-09.25), respectively in the weight throw and shot put
while Katelyn Huxley (Southampton, MA) recorded
tenth (31-04.75) and 18th (27-04.00) in the same events.
Second-year jumper Becky Galipeau (Bellingham,
MA) landed tenth (14-07.75) in the long jump to round out the field
for Worcester State.
Next Saturday the Lancers will compete again at Smith College for
their final tune up before the MASCAC/New England Alliance
Championships.
