Arnold Highlights Strong Performances at Day One of ECAC Championships

Northampton, MA --- Sophomore Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) had a leap of 37-6, one inch off the school mark, while the 4x200 team shattered the program standard set two weeks ago to help pace the Worcester State indoor track teams this evening at the ECAC Championships hosted by Smith College.

Arnold earned All-ECAC accolades for finishing in sixth while the 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore's Nikki Lemelin (Beverly, MA), Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) and Alica Ryan (Townsend, MA) along with freshman standout Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) ran a fourth place time of 1:46.30.

The previous mark of 1:48.51 was set by Lemelin, Rafferty, Ryan and Arnold at the Division III New England meet just 13 days ago.

Second-year Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) had an outstanding performance in the 55 meter hurdles this evening as he clocked a time of 7.88 to qualify for the finals tomorrow. Starling will run in the third seed and is guaranteed ECAC honors for being in the top eight. Starling also added an 18th place finish in the 55 meters.

Wise capped off her day as she tallied 17th in the 55 meters (7.53) while junior Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) notched 12th in the triple jump (35-09.25).

Check in tomorrow to find out where the both squads finished on the last day of competition.
