Rensselaer, NY --- Sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) broke her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles while freshman classmates Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) and Katie Cataldo (Attleboro, MA) both brought home certificiates as they helped lead the Worcester State women's track and field team to a tie for 22nd at the two-day ECAC Division III Championships.
Ithaca edged out Wheaton for the 2012 crown in a field that included 55 institutions. The Lancers finished in the top 25 for the third consecutive season and fourth among schools in the New England Alliance. Competition included Division III schools from the New England, New York and Mid-Atlantic regions.
For the fourth time in the last five weeks, Deinigner has posted a faster time in the 100 meter hurdles, this time scorching up the track with a third-place time of 14.58. Deininger's time is currently 24th on the most up-to-date DIII Outdoors list.
Jasper impressed in her last heptathlon of the season with the 30th highest point total in Division III. She would finish with 4,254 points - just 84 off the leader - for third overall.
Jasper had the top toss in the javelin (41.18m/135-1) as she was second in the 200 meters (27.10) and third in the shot put (11.42m/37-5.50). Her javelin distance is currently the 22nd best mark in the current DIII rankings for the outdoor championships.
In her other events she was seventh in both the 100 meter hurdles (16.63) and 800 (2:37.80), ninth in the high jump (1.42m/4-8) and 10th in the long jump (4.65m/15-3).
Cataldo rounded out the top finishers with eighth in the javelin throw with a heave of 39.71 meters (130-1).
Junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) also ran a time of 39:33.80 to reset the school mark she ran last season at the ECACs in the 10,000 meters.
The 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and freshman classmates Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA), Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Kim West (Harvard, MA) placed 11th (3:59.28) out of 23 schools breaking four minutes for the second time this outdoor campaign.
McMahon and Taylor timed 10th (1:04.76) and 12th (1:05.31), respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles as Caldarone also notched 17th in the long jump (4.89m/16-0.50) and 24th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.95).
Freshman Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) recorded 25th in the 100 (12.99) and junior Nicki Lemelin (Beverly, MA) was 33rd in the 200 (26.49). Sophomore Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) was 26th in the 10,000 with a time of 40:36.22.
Several Lancers will await word on whether they made the cut for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
