Easton, MA --- Junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) placed fourth for All-New England honors in the 100 meter hurdles (14.55) as she helped the Worcester State women's outdoor track team to a 15th place at the Open New England Championships this afternoon hosted by Stonehill.
The University of Rhode Island won the crown while the Lancers had their best-ever finish with 19 team points which was fourth among Division III institutions behind Tufts (45), MIT (20.5) and Amherst (20).
Battling the elements in a monsoon during the finals of the 100 meter hurdles, Deininger broke her own record for what is now the 18th-best time in Division III. She had set the record last season at the ECAC Championships and tied it with her finish last season at the Division III Outdoor Championships.
Individually, senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) also copped All-New England accolades for the second-straight outdoor season with seventh in the 100 (12.47).
Wise and Deninger teammed up along with sophomore Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and classmate Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) for the fifth-fastest 4x100 meter relay time (47.59) for All-New England laurels as the time is sixth fastest in the NCAA Division III.
Other solid times included sophomore Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) who placed 15th (1:05.59) and 25th (1:06.64) respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles.
Freshman Angelique Nurse (Auburn, MA) had a leap of 14th in the triple jump (35-08.50/10.88m) and sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) tossed 19th in the shot put (38-07.75/11.78m).
The 4x400 relay of Taylor, McMahon, freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) and sophomore Kim West (Harvard, MA) placed 23rd with a time of 4:02.64.
Select Lancers will compete next week at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield.
