Women's Outdoor Track Finishes Second At MASCAC Championships

 

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) placed first in the 100 meter hurdles (15.01) and junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) won the javelin (137-7/41.90 meters) as they both helped lead Worcester State to second place at the MASCAC Championships this afternoon at UMass Dartmouth.

With 225 points, Westfield State beat out the Lancers sum of 192 while the Blue and Gold were third in the New England Alliance standings with 108 points, just six away from leaving the track with the second place trophy.

Deininger and Jasper both successfully defended their respective Alliance crowns from last season with their outstanding performances.

Other MASCAC individual title winners included senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.31) and junior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) in the long jump (16-2.50/4.94m).

The second place finishers at the meet included Deininger in the 100 (12.50), Jasper in the shot put (38-4/11.68m), Taylor in the high jump (4-11.75/1.52m), senior Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) in the 10,000 (42:15.74), classmate Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) in the discus (116-3/35.43m) and sophomore Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.73).

The 4x400 meter relay team of Taylor leading off, sophomore Eva Bunszell (Bridgewater, MA), second-year teammate Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) and junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) took home runner-up medals with a time of 4:05.95.

Jasper also distinguished herself placing in three other events which included third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.83), fourth in the 200 (26.55) and fifth in the discus (101-8/30.98m).
