Medford, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA), junior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, MA) and sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) all placed second in their respective field events to help lead the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team to fourth overall at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational.
The host jumbos scored 149 points to win the team title followed by Northeastern (96 points) as the Lancers tallied 86 points in their season opening meet. WSU registered 59 points altogether in the field events alone.
Jasper hit the ECAC Division III Championship standard for the fourth consecutive season in the javelin with a toss of 124-6.75 (37-6.75 meters) while McCormack underscored the Division III New England qualifiers as she added a mark of 110-8.75 (33.75m) in the discus
Others who added their names to the Division III New England leaderboard included Casasanta in the high jump (5-2/1.58m), sophomore Erin Beccia (Rutland, MA) who was third in the 10,000 meters (40:56.78), junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) in the shot put with sixth place (38-8.25/10.88m) and classmate Maddie Benson (Attleboro, MA) finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.31).
The field competitors was also led by junior Molly Downing (Dedham, MA) and senior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) who were third (127-1/38.74m) and fourth (125-9.25/38.34m) in the hammer, respectively, while Downing also chalked up fourth in the discus (99-10/30.43m).
In the javelin, junior Samantha Barron (N. Andover, MA) notched fifth overall (102-1/31.12m) followed by classmate Courtney Spinelli (Tewksbury, MA) who was right behind in sixth (100-4.25/30.59m) as junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) was fifth in the triple jump (33-0/10.06m).
Casasanta had a leap of sixth in the triple jump (31-9/9.58) and senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) registered seventh in the long jump (15-10/4.83m).
On the track junior Nichole Tillery (Auburn, MA) and freshman Emily Visconti (N. Reading, MA) were third (13.01) and fourth (13.09), respectively, in the 100. Sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) placed seventh in the 400 (1:03.25) while Jasper timed 11th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.95).
