Springfield, MA --- Senior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) won the 200 meters (25.97) and anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay as she helped pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team to first place at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers posted an 11.5 point victory over the hosting Pride (133) and Wiliams was third (111).
Hodgerney qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200 while the 4x100 meter relay included freshman Emily Visconti (N. Reading), senior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and classmate Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) (48.98).
Other top finishers included Jasper in the javelin (122-7/37.37m) before she added second in the 100 (12.72) and 100 meter hurdles (15.15). Junior Francesca Casasanta (Milford, MA) also cleared the top height in the high jump (5-2.50/1.59m) for the second straight week and Hodgerney rounded out her fine day with third in the 100 (12.83).
Others who stamped their tickets to the ECAC Championships included senior Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA), who tied a personal best, with a leap of 17-7 in the long jump (5.36m)and junior Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) heaved second in the shot put (39-5/12.01m).
Junior Maddie Benson (Attleboro, MA) and Caldarone were seconds apart in fifth (15.86) and sixth (15.87), with a pair of Division III New England marks as junior Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) matched the effort with sixth in the triple jump (34-6.75/10.53m).
Le also scored points with third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.35) and sixth in the long jump as sophomore Aliya-Marie Melville (Worcester, MA/South) placed fourth in the 400 (59.63) and seventh in the long jump (16-3.25/4.96m).
McMahon also timed third in the 400 (59.13) after Visconti took home fourth in the 100 (13.12).
In the field, sophomore Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, MA) tossed fifth in the discus (99-9/30.40m) and sixth in the hammer (134-10/41.10m) while Jasper notched sixth in the discus (98-11/30.16). Senior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) notched fifth in the hammer (137-9/41.99) and Casasanta rounded out the finishers with seventh in the triple jump (34-2.25/10.42m).
The Lancers will start their postseason run with the MASCAC/Alliance Championships this Saturday at Fitchburg State.
