Indianapolis, IN --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been selected to participate at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon and the javelin as announced by the selection committee on Monday morning.
Jasper, the sixth seed in the heptathlon, looks to finish her career with All-American accolades for the second straight year which will be held at St. Lawrence in Canton, New York from May 21-23.
With her sum of 4,811 points scored at the Division III New England Championships, Jasper shattered her own meet record she set last season by 70 points and she repeated as the regional heptathlon champion.
At the NCAA Division III Championships one year ago, Jasper registered 4,714 points and earned eighth in the heptathlon. She will try to become the second WSU female to earn multiple All-American honors in any event at the National Championship meet as Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun accomplished the feat in the heptathlon three times.
As the only New England representative in a list of 22 heptathlon competitors, Jasper will go up against a returning field that features four All-Americans including defending champion and second seed, junior Amelia Campbell (Sturgeon Bay, WI) of Carleton, top-seed, senior Allie Boudreau (Deerfield, IL) of Illinois Wesleyan, senior Meagan Ward (LaCrosse, WI) of Wisconsin-Stout and junior Aedin Brennan (Fairpoint, NY) of Denison.
The first four events of the heptathlon will begin at 1 PM on Thursday, May 21 and the final three will take place at high noon on Friday.
Jasper will wrap up her season by competing in the open javelin on Saturday at 2:30. It will mark the fourth time that she has competed at the NCAA's in the event. Her best throw of the campaign came on April 11 at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College, as Jasper won the javelin with a first place toss of 137-1 (41.79m).
The field is highlighted by competitive field of seven of the eight All-Americans who were at the NCAAs in 2014. Senior Tilly Taylor (S. Deerfield, MA) of MIT and freshman Devon Player (Phoenixville, PA) of Middlebury are the student-athletes from New England that are among the list of 22.
Over final three weeks of the spring in the open javelin, Jasper captured All-Division III New England accolades with third overall (131-11/40.20m) and seventh at the Open New England Championships (130-2/39.68m).
