SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Worcester State's Hanna Carson (Natick, Mass.), Molly Downing (Dedham, Mass.), and Stephanie McFadries (Burlington, Mass.) stood out in their respective events, as the team overall placed 12th at American International College's 6th Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Carson registered a second place finish in the shot put at 12.24m, scoring eight points for her team. With her results in the event, she qualified for not only Division III New England's, but also for ECAC Championships.
Teammate, Downing, also marked a second place finish in the hammer throw, at 43.18m, adding in eight points to the Lancers' total. Downing qualified for Division III New England's in the event.
McFadries collected six points for her team in her third place finish in the javelin. McFadries threw for 39.30m, qualifying for both Division III New England and ECAC Championships.
Worcester States' 'A' squad marked an eighth place finish in the 4x100 Meter Relay in 51.63 for two points. The team was made up of Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.), Nichole Tillery (Auburn, Mass.), Dalena Le (Worcester, Mass.), and Emily Visconti (N. Reading, Mass.). Worcester's Rachel Lauzon (Carver, Mass.) Kayla Corcoran (Lunengber, Mass.), Danielle Cote (Dighton, Mass.), and Danielle Bavoux (Medway, Mass.) came in ninth in the 4x400 Meter Relay, chipping in a point for the Blue and Gold.
Le came in eighth place in the women's triple jump for two points at 10.41m.
"Saturday was a great day all around," commented head coach Andrea Ouellette. "We had lots of personal records and that is definitely something we want to see as we are getting ready for conference in just a few weeks."
The Lancers travel to Fitchburg State next weekend for their fourth meet of the season.
