BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's outdoor track & field team kicked off the 2017 season on Saturday at Bridgewater State's Bears Track & Field Invitational.

"Despite the cold weather, we had a pretty solid day as a team," commented head coach Andrea Ouellette. "The day was highlighted by Abigail Danso's first place finish in the hurdles, which is an all-time best for her."

Worcester State's Abigail Danso (Worcester, Mass.) led the team as she won the 100 Meter Hurdles event, marking a time of 15.51. Danso edged her opponent by 0.85 seconds to seal the win.

Danso and teammate Lauren Waters (Mansfield, Mass.) competed in the 100 and 200 Meter Dash on the occasion. Danso placed 10th in the 100M (13.33) and came in 19th in the 200M (28.34). Waters placed 11th in the 100M (13.33), and 25th in the 200M (28.49).

Rachel Stier (Mansfield, Mass.) was the sole Lancer to compete in the 400 Meter Dash, and placed 5th in a time of 1:02.47. Kayla Corcoran (Lunenburg, Mass.) came in 18th place in the 800 Meter Run (2:41.25).

Sophomore Mia Rogers (N. Dighton, Mass.) earned a 4th place finish in the 1500 Meter Run in a time of 5:05.63.  Emily Dickson (Marlborough, Mass.) came in at 17th in 5000 Meter Run (21:59.41)

Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) was the lone Lancer jumper and came in 10th place in long jump (4.37m).

Stephanie McFadries (Burlington, Mass.) guided the Lancers in the throwing events, as she came in 6th in the javelin throw with a throw of 36.56m. Elizabeth McCormack (Gloucester, Mass.) was the other thrower for the Lancers, and picked up a 15th place finish in the discus (29.06m).

"Mia Rogers rejoined the team for the outdoor season and had a good race despite being out of competition for the indoor season," said Ouellette. "The sprint crew also posted some decent times that set a good standard for what we have to do from here to get qualified for the post season."

Next up, the Lancers travel to Tufts on Saturday, April 1 to attend the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
