DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior Riley Sanderson (Leominster, Mass.) took first place in the javelin with a final throw of 36.38 meters to help Worcester State women's track and field to a sixth-place finish on Saturday at the Corsair Classic.
It's the second straight meet that the Lancers have had an individual champion, and also the second straight weekend that the 4x100 realy team came in second.
That group, made up of Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, Mass.), Maureen Grady (Douglas, Mass.), Bridget Maunsell and Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.), came in with a finals time of 50.55.
Herbert, fresh off a victory last week in the triple jump, this time took second in the same event, jumping a mark of 10.23 meters. Eryca Lopes also scored by placing eighth in the triple jump (9.34m).
Grady took fourth in the women's long jump finals, finishing with a mark of 4.67 meters.
Maunsell had another strong meet with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters (12.92)
Pellegrini and Herbert finished in the top 12 in the 100 meters, while Pellegrini was 7th in the 200 meters (27.61).
Heather Turner (Ashland, Mass.) took fourth overall in the 400-meters, with a time of 1:03.78, while Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.) took 7th in the 800 meters.
Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished the 1500 meters in 5:32.03, good for a 16th place showing.
Worcester State finished with 48 points in the 12-team field, with Bridgewater State taking the top spot overall.
The Lancers will head to Fitchburg on Saturday, April 9th to compete at the Sheehan Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State.
