
Worcester, MA- Worcester State jumped right back into competition this weekend, traveling North to Plymouth State to compete in the Panther Invite. The Lancers were led by sophomore Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) who claimed first in the long jump and third in the 60m helping to claim 57 points for Worcester's 6th place finish on the day's action.
In just her second meet back in action, Adu-Addo would again claim top finishes, leading the way in the long jump with a 5.36m measurement while sophomore teammate Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) took home 5th with a 5.04m mark. The pair would again find themselves as competitors in the 60m where Adu-Addo would take home third in a time of 8.16 and Strong would claim 7th with a time of 8.37.
Senior Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) would show her track speed in the 400m, crossing in a time of 65 seconds for fifth just edging out first year Emily Bodwell (Lakeville, MA) who crossed in 68.49 for 12th. In a race double the distance the juniors would take charge as Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) finished in 11th at 2:38.19, just ahead of Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) in 15th at 2:44.97 and Aubrey Tunnera (Marlborough, MA) in 20th at a time of 2:48.91. IN a race off at the finish Tunnera would just edge out teammate first year Cassandra Dirsa (Bolton, MA) who crossed in 21st in a time of 2:59.52.
In the mile first year Samantha Edwards (East Longmeadow, MA) would take home 13th on a 6:17.59n time while juniors Claudia Symonick (Auburn, MA) and Jillian McMenemy (Westborough, MA) would race it for 16th and 17th in tomes of 6:35.08 and 7:05.67. In the distance grind of the day junior Kelsey Gendreau (Seekonk, MA) would end the race in 10th with a 21:13.97 time.
In the teamwork portion of the meet the 4x200m team of sophomores Meghan Driscoll (Mansfield, MA), Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) and first years Arianna Farrell (Wilmington, MA) and Alexandria LaPointe (Fall River, MA) would take home 7th in 2:03.10. The distance counterparts of Berg, O'Malley, Tunnera, Gendreau and Edwards would take home 4th in a time of 11:20.65.
LaPointe would add additional success to her day with a 7th place finish in the high jump on a height of 1.41m, recording it on her second attempt to grab the top spot finish over teammate sophomore Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) who finished in 8th after reaching the height on the third and final attempt.
In the throwing pit sophomore Jadah Stokes (Chicopee, MA) would claim both second in the shot put, 11.91m, and third in the weight throw, 13.73m to capture a dominant day on the field side. Joining Stokes on the duel throwing circuit was graduate student Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) who claimed 7th in the shot put, on a 10.43m, and 17th in the weight with a 11.61m mark. Fellow sophomore Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) also did double duty grabbing 27th in the shot at 8.38m and 22nd in the weight with a distance of 9.93m alongside first year Charlotte Collins (Weymouth, MA) who took 26th in the shot on 8.56m and 30th in the weight with a mark of 8.99m. First year Angela Crognalo-Torrez would hit the pit in the shot for a 24th place finish on a 8.58m measurement, while senior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA) was 23rd in the weight throw with a distance of 9.57m.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday, when they head down to Coast Guard for a Friday fun meet, a rare afternoon treat for the squad.
