Worcester, MA --- Worcester State defeated Southern Maine this afternoon, 3-0, in sets 25-12, 25-15 and 25-21. With the win the Lancers improve to 4-6 while the Huskies fall to 0-5. It was the home-opener for WSC.
Senior captain Lauren Saylor (Swansea, MA) led the charge for Worcester State as she notched nine kills while her teammate, sophomore Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) registered six kills. Sophomore Brittney Stoddard (Orange, MA) also added 20 assists for WSC.
Southern Maine was paced by senior Shannon Shuttle (N. Ipswich, NH) who equaled seven kills and digs while sophomore Lauren Boulay (Biddleford, ME) dished out 12 assists, four digs and two aces. Senior Danielle Netland (Cumberland, ME) had a good all-around game with four assists, five digs and three kills while her classmate Cassi Sticht (Nerdith, NH) recorded two blocks.
The Lancers next opponent will be UMass-Boston on the road at 6 PM on Tuesday while the Huskies host Pine Manor on Wednesday at 7.
