Worcester State 3, Newbury 1
Brookline, MA --- The Newbury College women’s volleyball
team lost to Worcester State College Tuesday evening, in Brookline,
MA by a score of 3-1. Senior outside hitter Lauren
Saylor (Swansea, MA) led the way for the Lancers with a
match high 12 kills.
Worcester State jumped out to the early lead dominating the first
game 25-14 but Newbury responded quickly in game 2 and finished the
game by a score of 25-22 behind the strong play of first-year
outside hitter Sara Hanna (Center Moriches, NY) who recorded five
kills and four digs in the game.
Newbury would go on to put up a strong fight in both the third
and fourth games but Worcester State proved to be too much as they
went on to win 25-18 and 25-16. Senior middle blocker
Colleen O’Brien (Shrewsbury, MA) added the
power the Lancers needed to complete the win with 11 kills on 22
attempts for a hitting percentage of .409, while Saylor would add
16 digs to go along with her already impressive stat line.
Despite the loss, Newbury first year middle blocker Stephanie
Williams (Medford, MA) recorded 5 kills while also leading the team
in hitting percentage and solo blocks.
With the loss the Nighthawks drop to 5-11 on the season while the
Lancers improve to 7-8. Worcester State plays theri next game at
home against Becker at 7 PM. The game will be webcasted on
