Brunswick, ME --- Worcester State went 1-2 at the Mid Coast
Classic hosted by Bowdoin this past weekend as they lost to the
host Polar Bears and Rivier 3-0 and rebounded with a solid 3-0
triumph over Mount Holyoke. Senior Lauren Saylor
(Swansea, MA) was selected to the All-Tournament team.
Against Bowdoin on Friday evening, the Polar Bears won in sets,
25-15, 25-12 and 25-19. Freshman Kate O'Rourke
(Milford, MA) impressed as she led the Lancers with five kills and
three aces. O'Rourke, Saylor and sophomore Katey
Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) all notched three digs in the
effort.
On Saturday morning, WSC lost to Rivier in three close sets 25-17,
25-19 and 25-21. Saylor paced WSC with six kills and 11 digs, and
two block assists while sophomore Brittany
Stoddard (Orange, MA) added 19 assists and seven digs in
the setback. The Lancers had 11 team aces highlighted by three by
junior Brittany Ledoux's (Nashua, NH) while the squad also had
seven team blocks. Senior Colleen O'Brien
(Shrewsbury, MA) rounded things out for Worcester State with six
kills.
In the afternoon match, the Lancers finished out the weekend with a
9-10 overall record as they defeated Mount Holyoke 25-12, 25-12 and
25-18. O'Brien propelled WSC with nine kills while Saylor recorded
seven. Freshman Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) had a
breakout performance as she had a great all-around game with four
kills, five aces and a team-best nine digs. The Blue and Gold also
had 12 team aces against the Lyons as well.
Stoddard finished the weekend handing out 46 assists (15.3 per
match) while Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) had nine
assists in the last set against Mount Holyoke.
Worcester State continues MASCAC play with an early week matchup at
