Brookline, MA --- Worcester State was defeated 3-1 by Newbury on the road this evening in non conference women's volleyball action at Hellenic College. The Lancers were paced by junior Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) and senior Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) who combined for 18 kills in the setback.
The Lancers (6-7) won the first set, 25-17, before the Nighthawks (6-8) came back to take home the last three, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-22.
Lebel led the team with 10 kills, 20 digs and two solo blocks while senior Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA), junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) and Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) all combined to amass 13 kills.
Fourth-year Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) handed out 21 assists as she also finished with 12 digs. Jasper recorded a squad best three service aces.
The Blue and Gold will look to regroup on Saturday when they entertain MASCAC opponent Salem State at 1 o'clock and non-conference opponent Daniel Webster at 5 PM.
