Volleyball Goes 2-2 At Regis Pride Invitational


Weston, MA --- Senior Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) and sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) posted an equal sum of 28 kills each for All-Tournament Team accolades as they both helped lead Worcester State to a 2-2 record at the Regis Pride Invitational this past weekend.

Lebel had a solid attacking percentage of .295 percent (28-for-61) while she also added seven aces and six blocks (three solo) in four games. Jasper added 20 digs - which tied for third on the team for the tournament.

 

Worcester State 3, Husson 0

Sophomore Ali Remigio (Tewksbury, MA) finished with eight kills as Alyssa Jasper and junior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) combined for 12 kills as the trio helped propel Worcester State to a 3-1 victory over Husson in the opening round of Pool B pairings on Friday afternoon.

The Lancers swept the Golden Hawks in three consecutive sets, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-13.

Second-year Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) put up 28 assists and junior Vicki O'Brien had a team-best seven digs.

WSU ended their first contest of the day with 11 service aces as senior Becky Lebel, Lewis and freshman Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) all had three apiece.

 

MIT 3, Worcester State 1

Senior Becky Lebel tallied a team-high 11 kills off 15 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage as Worcester State was defeated by MIT, 3-1, in the second game of the Pool B pairings on Friday evening.

Worcester State took the opening set, 25-18, but then the Engineers won their final three by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-15.

In the third frame, the Scarlet and Gray actually led 20-15, but the Lancers embarked on a furious comeback to get within two points twice (22-20 and 24-22), but MIT finished the set with a kill to help gain the momentum for the win.

Sophomore Amanda Lewis and freshman Gina Battista (W. Springfield, MA) combined to dish out 28 assists. Junior teammates Emily Cox (N. Andover, MA) and Vicki O'Brien along with second-year Alyssa Jasper paired to amass 22 digs.

Freshman Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) chipped in with seven kills as Jasper ended her night with six.

 

WPI 3, Worcester State 1

Sophomore Alyssa Jasper and junior Emily Cox combined for 15 kills and 12 digs in a balanced attack as Worcester State fell, 3-1, to WPI in the second round of the Regis Pride Invitational on Saturday morning.

Unlike their match the previous day, the Blue and Gold won the first set, 25-18, but the Engineers came back to post three straight victories by scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 25-17.

Jasper had a team-high nine kills and Cox finished with eight. Junior Megan Brown and Vicki O'Brien recorded 11 digs apiece as Amanda Lewis doled out 21 assists in the setback.

WPI was tenacious around up front and in the back row as they would finish with six blocks - 10 of which were block assists - and 13 aces.

 

Worcester State 3, Regis 0

Sophomore Alyssa Jasper along with junior teammates Megan Brown and Nicole Hanson (Dighton, MA) all posted .400-plus hitting percentages to combine for 17 kills as they helped pace Worcester State in the consolation game of the Regis Pride Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers finished the tournament by defeating the host Pride in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-11 and 25-18.

Jasper logged a team-high seven kills while Brown, Hanson, junior Emily Cox and senior Becky Lebel all added five apice.

Third-year Vicki O'Brien tallied 10 digs, to bring her total for the tournament to 35 in just four games for an impressive sum of 8.75 per contest.

Sophomore Amanda Lewis and first-year Gina Battista both combined for 29 assists in the triumph for WSU.
