Women's Volleyball Sweeps Mount Holyoke Trimatch To Open Campaign

 

South Hadley, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) amassed 29 kills and 23 digs as she helped Worcester State sweep Mount Holyoke and Norwich this afternoon in non-conference women's volleyball action. 

The Lancers (2-0) opened the morning with a 3-0 triumph over the hosting Lyons before completing the sweep with a 3-1 victory over the Cadets.

Junior Meghan Deighan (Lynn, MA) also smashed a blistering .400 percentage with 16 kills while senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) and sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virgina Beach, VA) combined for 61 assists.

WSU will play again on Thursday when they take on UMass Dartmouth on the road at 7 PM.

 

Worcester State 3, Mount Holyoke 0

Senior Alyssa Jasper posted a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs as junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) nearly matched the effort with nine kills and a contest-best 14 digs to help Worcester State defeat Mount Holyoke, 3-0.

The Lancers officially started off their 2013-14 campaign by sweeping the Lyons, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-11 in straight sets.

Junior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) put up 12 digs to help pace the defensive effort for the Blue and Gold. Classmate Meghan Deighan had a nifty hitting percentage (.353) with seven kills.

Sophomore Jamika Townsend was solid, finishing with 14 assists, six kills, seven digs and two service aces.

WSU had eight aces overall as a team with two apiece by Jasper, Cabral and sophomore Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, MA).

 

Worcester State 3, Norwich 1

Junior Jennifer Cabral and classmate Kaylee Leduc both finished wtih 21 digs and 15 digs, respectively, as the pair helped Worcester State take home a 3-1 victory over Norwich. 

After the Blue and Gold won the first set, 25-19, and the Cadets earned the second, 25-18, the Lancers dispatched their opponents in the final two with a 25-17 and 25-15 victory.

Senior Alyssa Jasper tallied her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 13 digs as Jamika Townsend did a little bit of everything with 19 assists, six kills, four digs and three service aces.

Junior Meghan Deighan was one miscue shy of registering a kill on half of her attempts. Deighan had an attacking percentage of .444 with nine kills.

Norwich had the 47-38 margin in team kills while the Lancers edged out their opponents, 63-62 in digs.
