Lewis, Jasper Reach Career Milestones In Split At WPI Tri-Match

 

Worcester, MA --- Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) averaged 40.5 assists - including the 2,000th of her career - and 8.5 digs as she helped pace Worcester State to a split at the WPI tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers (19-5) dropped the opener to Framingham State, 3-1, before earning the 3-0 victory against the host Engineers.

WSU returns to the court on Wednesday at 7 PM when they host Bridgewater State at WPI in their final regular-season match at home.

 

Framingham State 3, Worcester State 1

Despite a career-best 13 kills by junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA), Worcester State was dispatched, 3-1, by Framingham State in the morning contest of the WPI tri-match.

In a matchup that featured a battle of MASCAC unbeatens, WSU took the first set, 25-22, but were defeated in the last three by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-23 by the Rams (18-8, 5-0 MASCAC).

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) posted her 11th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 19 digs as she became the programs all-time leader in kills in the opening set, passing Lauren Saylor's (2006-09) mark of 1,127.

Deighan finished the match with a .357 hitting percentage with just three miscues in 28 attempts to pace the offense while sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) added 12 kills and 16 digs.

Lewis tallied 43 assists, eight digs and a pair of kills as junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) registered 16 digs and five kills. Classmate Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) chipped in with 19 digs. 

 

Worcester State 3, WPI 0

Senior Amanda Lewis handed out 38 assists with 10 digs and a duo of aces as she helped lead Worcester State to a 3-0 triumph over WPI in the finale of the trimatch with the hosting Boynton Hillers. 

The Blue and Gold avenged their opening round setback in last months City Tournament against the Boyton Hillers by defeating them in three straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20.

Lewis distinguished herself on the first point against the Crimson and Gray as she became the first Lancer to reach the 2,000 assist milestone.

Senior Alyssa Jasper and junior Meghan Deighan both registered 11 kills as Jasper also notched 12 digs for WSU. Junior Jennifer Cabral put up a contest-high 21 digs with a trio of aces while Jamika Townsend did a little bit of everything with 10 kills, 13 digs and a trio of aces.

Junior Kaylee Leduc finished with 18 digs.
