Jasper Recognized As MASCAC Player of the Year, Patterson Selected To All-Sportsmanship Team
Westfield, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been selected MASCAC Player of the Year as she underscores three honorees who were distinguished with all-conference accolades in a vote by the leagues seven head coaches which announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann on Tuesday.
Joining Jasper on the First-team is junior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA/Case) and fellow classmate Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA/Case) received a nod to the Second-team.
In being recognized as the top outside hitter in the conference, Jasper has had a remarkable season for the Blue and Gold with her fourth career laurel as an all-league performer.
Jasper has shattered previous single-season marks for kills (443), kills per set (4.39) and points per set (4.90) while her ranks are among the top 20 in the NCAA Division III and she is second in New England in each category.
Among MASCAC leaders, she is seventh in hitting percentage, 10th in both digs per set (2.92) and total digs (295) and her 27 total blocks are 14th.
Leduc, the squad's top defensive specialist at libero, earns her first career All-MASCAC plaque. She finished the regular season leading the MASCAC in digs per set (4.17) and total digs (430) and she is just 22 away from setting the single campaign mark held by Brianna Cobb (2007).
Cabral, who also was distinguished with her first collegiate all-conference honor, has had a breakout season for the Blue and Gold, starting at outside hitter while also playing along the back row.
Doing a little bit of everything to help support the Lancers defensively and the offensively, Cabral is third overall in total digs (392), sixth in digs per set (3.84), fifth in aces (43), eighth in aces per set and 15th in total kills (161).
On the career digs list with 790 in her three seasons, Leduc is now within striking distance of the top five of Michelle Maass (2007-10, 804) and Megan Brown (2007-10, 804). Cabral is right behind Leduc as she moved into seventh on the all-time list with 716 and Jasper is eighth (677).
For her positive influence and attitude on the court this season, junior Samantha Patterson (Fayetteville, NC) earned a spot on the All-MASCAC Sportsmanship team.
Under the direction of 11th year head coach Bernie Chase, the Lancers (22-8, 5-1 MASCAC) claimed the second seed in this week's conference tournament and will play #3 Westfield State on Saturday at Framingham State in a 1 PM match.
The winner of the two semifinal matches will play for the league championship on Saturday at 3 PM in Framingham State's Athletic and Recreation Center.
