Worcester State Volleyball is Victorious over UMass Dartmouth in Season Opener

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Worcester State University Lancers volleyball team is off to a good start to the 2015 season, as they claimed their first victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22), on Wednesday night in the Tripp Athletic Center.

 

Freshman Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass.) led the Lancers with a double-double on the night, recording a team-high 12 kills and 18 digs. Also co-leading Worcester State in digs was senior libero, Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, Mass.) with 18.

 

Sophomore Alysia Pearce (Pepperell, Mass.) led the team with 24 assists on the night – all but of six of Worcester State's team total. She also documented the team's highest attack percentage at .286 (3-7).  

 

Junior Valerie Hoyle (Bridgewater, Mass.), senior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, Mass.), and senior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, Mass.) registered 7-6-5 kills, respectively.

 

As a whole, the Lancers tagged on a team-total 10 service aces, and recorded an overall .080 attack percentage against the Corsairs.

 

As a side note, in the final set, Worcester State held the Corsairs to a stunning .000 attack percentage.

 

Next up, the Lancers will take on Clark University at the Worcester City Tournament located at Becker College on Saturday, September 5. The first Lancer game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
