Women's Volleyball Overpowered at Wheaton Invite

NORTON, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's volleyball team suffered a pair of straight-set defeats Saturday against Farmingdale State and Rhode Island College at the Wheaton Invite. Set scores against Farmingdale State were 25-20, 25-21, 25-19, and against Rhode Island College 25-23, 25-21, 28-26.

With the losses, Worcester State falls to 1-7 on the season.

The Lancers were led by Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) in the opening match. She totaled 10 kills, two service aces, and picked up six digs. Brooke Lamothe (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the defensive effort for the Lancers with 10 digs in the first match.

In the battle against Rhode Island College the Lancers were led offensively by Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) with eight kills and 10 assists. Gillis, Denise Hoxha (Worcester, Mass.) and Camryn Burgio (Quincy, Mass.) led defensively with six digs each.

Worcester State heads back to the court Tuesday to start conference play against Westfield State. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
