Lancers Drop Double Header On The Road as Colonis records 1,000th Career Assist

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers traveled to Wentworth Institute for a double match day that would see them take on Wentworth and Rivier University.

Final : Worcester State 0 Rivier 3 (25-19, 26-24, 25-11)

The first match was a back and forth battle between Rivier and the Lancers. The first set saw the teams going point for point until a mid set stretch brought the 6-6 tie a seven point difference. Worcester worked to bring the score back in their favor, closing the gap to four points but the Raiders momentum was too strong in the opening set.

The second set looked to be going the Lancers way, opening up with eight straight points for Worcester on the service of sophomore Cassandra Millea (Orange, CT), but Rivier chipped their way back into the match at at a 17-11 score for Worcester, began a five point rally for Rivier that would see the set tied up at 17 all. The remainder of the set would remain tight until the Raiders were able to grab the final two points to close out the second.

That comeback momentum held for Rivier in the final set where they grabbed a quick lead and did not look back, preventing the attempted comebacks from the Lancers through the games.

First year Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley,CA)  finished the game with 10 kills as junior Angela Colonis (Waterford,CT) also chipped in with 11 assists in the game. The 11 assists in the match saw Colonis record over 1,000 career assists in the match.
