Women's Cross Country Competes at Tri-States Championships

Cranston, RI --- The Lancers each placed fifth on Saturday as the women were led by freshman Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) while classmate Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) paced the men at the Tri-States Championships hosted by CCRI.

Donohue shaved 31 seconds off her time last week to place sixth with a time of 21:18 while freshman Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) tallied 15th (22:09) and second-year Meghan Plant (Franklin, MA) registered 17th (22:18). Sophomore Molly Gates (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and first-year Kristina Richard (Peabody, MA) finished ten seconds apart to settle for 28th (23:27) and 29th (23:37), respectively.

Mazeika was solid as he finished in 14th (28:38) while Alex Droby (Uxbridge, MA) wasn't far behind in 26th (29:46). Greg Babiec (Worcester, MA/Doherty), Justin Hunt (Rutland, MA) and Norman Everett (W. Bridgewater, MA) rounded out the men as they each took 39th (30:57), 44th (31:28) and 51st (31:52), respectively.

WPI won both the mens and the women's events while conference rival Bridgewater State took second in the female 5k race and third in the 8k male course.

The Lancers will take a week off before competing on Friday, October 16 at the Emmanuel Saints Invitational as a tune-up before the MASCAC Championships.
