Women's Cross Country Places Third At Emmanuel Saints Invtational

Boston, MA --- Led by junior Maura Withington's (W. Palm Beach, FL) 11th place time of 21:01, the Worcester State women's cross country team had six girls finish inside the top 20 to help the squad tally third at the Emmanuel Saints Invitational.

Lesley College placed with 38 points while Babson edged out the Lancers (58) for the top spot as the Beavers recorded 57. 18 teams from around the region competed at the race held at Franklin Park.

After Withington's time, freshman Kelsey Cartright (Bridgewater, MA) was four seconds off in 12th (21:05) for the seventh best first-year time followed by sophomore Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) who came in 13th (21:06), freshman Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) (15th; 21:09), first-year Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) (17th; 21:16) and sophomore Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) (19th; 21:23).

The squad was rounded out by junior Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) who added 32nd (22:08) as first-year Christine Schaffer (Atkinson, NH) notched 34th clocking 22:18.

Worcester State will head to the course again next Saturday when they look to run at the MASCAC Championships next week at Westfield State's Stanley Park.
