Withington Paces Women's Cross Country At New England Regionals

Williamstown, MA --- Junior Maura Withington (W. Palm Beach, FL) placed 117th in a field of 335 competitors to help lead the Worcester State women's cross country team to take home 27th at the NCAA New England regional's hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock.

Withington's time was the second-best finish among schools in the MASCAC while the Blue and Gold had the third highest conference finish as a team. BSU took the top spot in 20th with 659 points while Westfield State (722) edged out the Lancers (764) for a tie with Lesley for 25th. Middlebury earned the team title.

Freshman Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) notched 141st (25:47) followed by sophomore Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) who added 151st (25:53) while with second year Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) and Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) who tallied 177th (26:23) and 178th (26:24), respectively, just one second apart.

First-year Christine Shaffer (Atkinson, NH) crossed the line in 206th (26:49) as junior Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) capped off the top seven for the Lancers with a solid finish of 236th (27:33).

The distance corps will take a break until the indoor track season starts a meet at Smith on December 11.
