Women's Cross Country Opens Season With Top Finish At Jim Sheehan Invitational

Fitchburg, MA --- Highlighted by freshman Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA), the Worcester State  women's cross country team captured four of the top six spots to take home first place at Friday afternoon's Jim Sheehan Memorial invitational at the 5k Cogshell Park.

The Lancers successfully defended the title that they won last season with 27 points to edge out Eastern Connecticut's total of 33 points.

Peso was second overall with a time of 22:54, as classmate Jennifer Cardinal (Chicopee, MA) was six seconds behind in third and senior Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) added 23:12 for fourth place. First-year Kristina Humphreys (Burlington, MA) notched sixth with a time of 23:42 to round out the top four finishers for WSU.

Freshman Courtney Godfrey (Danvers, MA) also finished 12th (24:47) as fourth-year Maura Withington (W. Palm Beach, FL) clocked 15th (25:13) followed by freshman Alyssa Fontaine (N. Attleboro, MA) who registered 26:08 in 16th place.

Next Saturday the Lancers look for some fast times as they head to UMass Dartmouth for the UMD Shriners Invitational.
