Peso Named MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Junior Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) has been selected as MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for helping lead Worcester State to a runner-up finish at the Worcester City Meet.

Peso scaled the 5k course with a time of 20:19 to place third individually for her best career time at Moore State Park.

In each of the last two weeks, Peso has been the top finisher for the Lancers coming 14th out of 204 at the Smith Invitational and 32nd out of 207 entrants at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational.

As a short-distance specialist, Peso had a solid sophomore campaign on the track this past year.

Peso placed third at the MASCAC Indoor Championships in the 1,000 for the seventh-best time in program history (3:18.44) and she ran the 1,200 leg of the school-record setting distance medley relay at the ECAC Division III Championships held at the NYC Armory.

In the outdoor season, Peso posted the fifth-best 1,500 (5:10.03) at the MASCAC Championships to help the Lancers claim their third title in the last four years with the eighth fastest time in the WSU annals.

Freshman Katherine Becker (Haverhill, MA) also received a nod to the MASCAC Weekly Honor roll as a rookie for taking home 15th at the City Meet. She clocked the third-highest time (22:14) for a first-year competitor on the course.

The Blue and Gold hit the trail again this weekend at the Tri-State's Invitational hosted by CCRI in Lincoln, RI.
