DANBURY, Conn. – On Wednesday (Oct. 21), the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the Corvias ECAC Women's Cross Country Runners of the week ending Oct. 18.

After being named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Week for her third time on Monday (second-consecutive), the ECAC has named Worcester State freshman runner, Mia Rogers (North Dighton, Mass.), the Division III New England Region Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

"Although it is a great honor and surprise to be awarded this (ECAC Rookie of the Week Award) two weeks in a row, I hope to become an even better athlete for myself and for my team," said Rogers.

This past weekend, Rogers helped her team to a third place team finish at the Western New England Invitational. Rogers placed fourth individually out of 141 runners with a 5k time of 19:43. This time is the fastest time ever run on this course by a Worcester State runner, besting the previous mark by 12 seconds (Chelsey Peso '15 at 19:55).

"Mia's freshman cross country season has been a terrific learning experience for her," said head coach Gary Jusseaume. "She runs her race, and isn't intimidated by the competition."

"As we head into conference, ECAC and NCAA D-III New England Regional competitions, it's wonderful to see Mia push herself harder in training and meets," stated Jusseaume.

The Lancers women's cross country team will have this upcoming weekend off before they compete in the MASCAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31 on their home course, Moore State Park.
