Tom Ronan Tabbed Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Tom Ronan has been selected as the next head coach of the University’s men’s and women’s cross country programs.

Ronan replaces DJ Raboin, who left Worcester State earlier this year to pursue a career outside of college athletics.

“Coach Ronan will be a welcome addition to our men’s and women’s cross country programs,” said Worcester State Director of Athletics Michael Mudd. “He is a terrific educator and coach that has a resume displaying great life experiences which will be highly beneficial to our students and our athletic program.”

Ronan comes to Worcester State with a wealth of coaching experience. He serves as the head track & field and strength coach at St. Paul High School in Worcester, and was previously the head coach of Holy Name High School track & field team prior to its merger with St. Peter-Marian. Before Holy Name, Ronan was the head coach of cross country and outdoor track & field at Tri-County High School and assistant indoor track coach at Franklin High School for 10 years, coaching numerous Mass. state champions in the distance events.

Ronan is also the head triathlon coach at Crimson Aquatics Club in Whitinsville, Mass., and is the owner and head coach of MRA Coaching and Training in Northbridge, Mass. He has coached 11 USA Triathlon national qualifiers and one World Championships qualifier in the triathlon, as well as dozens of Boston Marathon qualifiers and Ironman finishers.

Ronan was a standout distance runner and pole vaulter at North Catholic High School in Philadelphia and a U.S. Navy search and rescue swimmer before attending UMass Boston.

In addition to his head coaching role with the men’s and women’s cross country teams, Ronan will serve as an assistant coach for the Lancer indoor and outdoor track & field teams.
