Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Cross Country team begins their 2024 season today as they take to the course at Keene State for the Keene State Invitational. With a mix of returning junior talent and new addition to the squad the young season hopes to have a promising start. The Lancers would close out the meet against a steep competition with 147 points running at an average of 14:09.77 for the two mile meet.
Junior Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) would cross with the top time for the Lancers, finishing in 20th with a blistering pace of 13:11.62. Fellow junior Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) would come in under a minute behind in 29th, with a time of 13:53.66, just edging out junior Kelsey Gendreau (Seekonk, MA) who claimed 30th with a time of 14:04.77. Putting in her own strong final kick was first year Samantha Edwards (East Longmeadow) who claimed 32nd with a 14:29.32. Rounding out the top five for Worcester was fellow first year Cassandra Dirsa (Bolton, MA) who just squeezed in ahead, by just two second, of junior Jillian McMenemy (Westborough, MA) for that 36th place finish in a time of 15:11.84.
The Lancers are next back in action on September 21st when they head to UMass-Dartmouth for the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
