Lancers Edge Fisher College, 5-4

LYNN, Mass. – After falling behind 3-0 in the first three innings of play, the Worcester State Lancers scored four runs in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings to edge the Fisher College Falcons 5-4 in a non-conference game played Saturday afternoon at Fraser Field.

 

The Falcons scored one run in the bottom of the 2nd when Haydell Alicea (Carolina, Puerto Rico) reached base on a walk and rounded the bases on a stolen base and a fly out to left field, eventually scoring on an error by Worcester State.

 

The Falcons added to their lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Adam Lucey (Malden, Mass.) reached on a walk, and eventually scored on an RBI double from Devin Perry (Newton, Mass.), from where he scored on an RBI double by Cody Mercier (Salem, Mass.) to give their team the 3-0 advantage.

 

Worcester State's Jake Ryan (Northbridge, Mass.) put a number up for the Lancers in the top of the 4th when he started the inning with a triple to left field. He then reached home plate on a fielder's choice, marking the score at 3-1 in the Falcons' favor.

 

The Lancers tied the score up in the top of the 5th when John Boyd (Worcester, Mass.) hit an RBI double to centerfield, scoring James Sheehan (Oxford, Mass.) and Josh Pageau (Millbury, Mass.) at the plate.

 

The Falcons stole the lead from the Lancers in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI single. However, the Lancers stole the lead and held it for the remainder of the game in the top of the 7th when Ryan singled to left field for 2 RBI.

 

Worcester's relief pitcher, Neil Begley (Springfield, Mass.) earned the win as he pitched four innings and only allowed one run on three hits. Fisher's Grayson Weber (Las Vegas, NV) pitched a complete game and suffered the loss, allowing five runs (two unearned).

 

The Lancers return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 29) when they host Rhode Island College for a single game at the Lyons Diamond.
