Worcester State Falls to Framingham State 55-14 on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. –The Worcester State University Lancers fell to the Framingham State University Rams 55-14 Saturday afternoon at John F. Coughlin Field on a sunny and windy senior day.

 

The Lancers recognized their 2015 senior class prior to the game, as they recognized the following: Donnell Boyd (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Mark Parker (Natick, Mass.), Trevor Vasey (Cumberland, R.I.), Brian Gencarelli (Niantic, Conn.), Kemani Jones (Milton, Mass.), Dana Valentine (Roxbury, Mass.), Samie Jean (Malden, Mass.), Nick Maxner (Jefferson, Mass.), Chris Burley (Oxford, Mass.), Ryan Filliger (Haverhill, Mass.), Terrence Gibson (Rockland, Mass.), Charles Gunter (Dorchester, Mass.), and Zachary Arsenault (Lancaster, Mass.).

 

The Lancers conclude their season with a 4-6 overall record, and a .500 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) record of 4-4.The Rams conclude their 2015 regular season with a 9-1 record, and an undefeated MASCAC record of 8-0.

 

Framingham State went on a 28-0 run on the Lancers to trigger the first half. The Rams' first touchdown came with 12:07 left in the first quarter when senior quarterback, Matthew Silva (Dracut, Mass.), went on a one-yard run to put the Rams up. Junior kicker, Sean Wlasuk's (Peabody, Mass.) PAT was good for the Rams' 7-0 start.

 

The Rams' second touchdown also came in the first quarter on a pass from Silva to senior wide receiver, Marcus Grant (Carver, Mass.) for four yards on their third drive. They added in two more touchdowns on rushes from junior running back, Jaleen Green (Brockton, Mass.) – a five-yard and then nine-yard run to place the Black and Gold up four touchdowns and a 100 PAT percentage from Wlasuk for a score of 28-0.

 

It wasn't until the third quarter that the Lancers were able to score offensively. Off the bench, sophomore quarterback, Noah Brum (Honolulu, H.I.) came into play from where he threw a 19-yard pass to junior Tyler Barrie (Oxford, Mass.) for a touchdown with 11:08 remaining in the third quarter. A good kick from freshman Noah Hwang (Brooklyn, N.Y.) trimmed the Rams' 28 point advantage to just 21.

 

Framingham answered in the third quarter on a 27-yard reception from Silva to Grant for a touchdown. They scored another touchdown at 1:16 in the third, but that was after Worcester answered the Grant-Silva duo with an 11-yard run from the Lancers' senior running back, Jones, who rushed for a touchdown.

 

Early in the fourth quarter, the Framingham duo of Silva and Grant partnered up again on a 25-yard pass to increase the lead to 49-14. The Rams were able to get away with one more touchdown at 8:23 in the fourth quarter, on a 13-yard run from sophomore quarterback, Zakery Walker (Ayer, Mass.) to complete the game with a final score of 55-14.

 

Silva guided the Rams offensively as he went 20-30 in passing for a total of 175 yards and four touchdowns. On the other end of Silva was Grant and freshman Napolen Miller (Boston, Mass.) who had nine and eight receptions for 74 and 102 yards, respectively. Grant racked up three touchdowns, while Miller tallied up one. Rushing for the Rams was Green who registered 96 yards and two rushing touchdowns on the afternoon.

 

Lancers' starting quarterback, Vasey, completed 5-out-10 passing attempts for a total of 57. Second-string quarterback, Brum, put up 149 yards, going 18-28 with one interception. On the receiving end, Jones steered the way with nine receptions for a total of 36 yards. Jones also led the team in rushing yards with 69 net yards and one touchdown.

 

Defensively for Framingham State, senior Greg Peschel (Taunton, Mass.) led the team with 12 tackles (four unassisted). Sophomore Kenneth Bartolo (Marlboro, Mass.), senior Jacques Janvier (Boston, Mass.), and senior Matthew Mangano (Winchester, Mass.) rallied up five apiece for the Rams. For the Lancers, Gencarelli, freshman Theo Bryant (Lowell, Mass.), Arsenault, and freshman Mike Reed (Feeding Hills, Mass.) notched nine tackles apiece.

 

Overall, Framingham State had the first down advantage of 28-16, and also in total yardage of 447-276. Framingham State went 6-8 in red zone scores-chances, while the Lancers went 2-3.
