Jim Pisegna returned alongside head coach Brien Cullen in 2017 as a linebackers coach for the Worcester State football team, after serving as the offensive line coach for Cullen in 1983 and 1984. Prior to his return to Worcester State, Pisegna had a two-year stint at Anna Maria College as a defensive line coach. A native of Worcester, Pisegna is a well-known name in the local football community.

Prior to coming to Anna Maria, Pisegna has spent 30 years coaching football at a number of colleges and universities. From August of 2008 to December of 2014 Pisegna held the position as Head Football Coach at Burncoat High School. Some of his other potions have included: special teams coordinator at Assumption College, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Bryant University, linebacker and secondary coach at Univeristy of Rhode Island, linebacker coach and defensive line coach at Fordham University and assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach at Iona College.

While at Iona, Pisegna’s defense was ranked 10th in the nation for I-AA in 2002, only allowing 267 yards per game. In 2002 the Gaels were third in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in rushing defense, holding teams to 137 yards per game and in 2000 Iona led the MAAC in quarterback sacks with 31 for the season.

Pisegna’s defense at Assumption was ranked 23rd in the nation for NCAA Division III in 1993 while the team placed second in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and posted a 6-4 overall record. Pisegna also made stops at Assumption with the third ranked defense in 1988 and 1990 in the ECFC.

From 1994-1999, Pisegna served as a defensive line coach for four years and linebacker coach for one year at Fordham University. The team finished second in the Patriot League twice while his defense only allowed 22.4 points per game and 338 yards in 1997.

Pisegna has attended NFL training camps as a visiting coach for 10 different teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, and New York Giants. In addition, Pisegna was a guest coach for the CFL Ottawa Renegades for head coach Joe Pao Pao in 2003.

A 1984 graduate of Worcester State College and a 1987 graduate of Kansas State University, Pisegna earned his Bachelor of Science degree in natural science and his Master’s degree in geography. Coach Pisegna and his wife Julia reside in Worcester with their daughter Olivia.
