GILBERT, Ariz. - Nine student-athletes from the Worcester State University field hockey team have been selected to the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad.

Seniors Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.), Sarah Bjorn (Holden, Mass.), and Katelyn Santos (Acushnet, Mass.), juniors Alexa Bobbin (Charlestown, R.I.), Sarah Duff (Warren, Mass.), and Lauren Fleming (Leominster, Mass.), sophomore Ann Maher (Mansfield, Mass.), and freshmen Carly Duff (Warren, Mass.) and Emily Saucier (Auburn, Mass.) all earned the honor.

The Division III National Academic Squad program honors student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. In total, 1,943 student-athletes representing 157 institutions received the honor.

Last week, the field hockey program was also among the 147 Division III teams to receive the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Team Award for achieving a team grade point average over a 3.0 for the fall semester.

"This year's field hockey team will forever be remembered at Worcester State for its accomplishments on the field, but even more important and impressive are the team's achievements in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Michael Mudd. "I am extremely proud of our field hockey student-athletes."

The Lancers won its first ever Little East Conference Championship in November, earning an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The LEC champions finished their season with an overall record of 18-5, the most wins in a season in program history.
