Six Golfers Earn MASCAC Spring All-Academic Team Accolades

 

Westfield, MA --- Junior teammates Matt Collamer (Dracut, MA) and Bryan Dunham (Tolland, CT) propelled six men's golfers who were distinguished on the MASCAC Spring All-Academic Team as announced by league publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Others on the conferences spring academic honor roll included freshmen classmates Anthony Bement (Attleboro, MA), Steven Ferraro (Leicester, MA), Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) and Brett Tetreault (Webster, MA).

Collamer was also recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with GNAC Academic All-Conference laurels at the beginning of June.

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based GPA during their season of competition. The Blue and Gold had the second highest sum in the conference as they were two off of Westfield State who had eight honored.

Under the watchful eye of second-year head coach Mark Gurski, the Lancers took fourth at the Elms Invitational and were 20th among Division III squads at the NEIGA Championships this past Fall. In the spring, the Blue and Gold were third at the MASCAC Championships and finished the campaign off with a dual-match victory over local rival Becker.

Overall, WSU had the third most honorees named to the MASCAC Spring All-Academic team with 92 while the sum for the 2013-14 academic year of 234 set a new institutional standard. For the spring semester, all student-athletes at Worcester State posted a stellar 3.01 grade point average.
