Granby, MA --- Senior David Rixham (Northbridge, MA) survived a six-round playoff to capture medalist accolades as the top finisher at the Elms Blazer Spring Invitational, handing in a final card of 75 (+3) at the par 72 Westover Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon.

Rixham duked it out with sophomore Chris Miele (S. Hadley, MA) of Elms and junior Chris Camerlango (Pembroke, MA) of Rhode Island College in the end, battling the elements of a rain storm that had approached the area. After Miele was eliminated from the playoff the par four, third tee, Rixham and Camerlango matched strokes through the par three, tenth hole for two consecutive tries.  

On the sixth attempt, Camerlango overshot the green with his drive landing on the fringe setting up a 60 feet uphill shot on the fringe while Rixham gave himself a great lie 15 feet away from the pin just as the heavy precipitation subsided.

With both golfers on their second shot, Carmelango put himself in fair position to set up his third before Rixham gave himself a chance to par on a three-foot putt.

On his bid to save save par, Carmelango left it short as Rixham seized the victory by taking a deep breath and calmly draining the shot to walk away with the his first major tournament trophy.

The Lancers scored 327 (+39), tying Babson's "Green" team for third out of ten squads in attendance. The Blue and Gold were only 20 strokes off of first place which was won by RIC.

Other finisher for Worcester State included junior Jackson Davis (Spencer, MA) who tied for 18th (82, +10), sophomore Patrick Sharron (Boylston, MA) knotted 21st (84, +12) and classmate Steven Ferraro (Leicester, MA) notched 26th (86, +14).

Senior Bryan Dunham (Tolland, CT) rounded out the group, tying for 27th, firing an 88 (+16).

The Lancers will close out their spring campaign by hosting the third-annual Rich Korzec Invitational and MASCAC Championship this Tuesday at Blackstone National.
