Cahalane Named MASCAC Ice Hockey Player Of The Week

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Junior John Cahalane has been selected as this week's MASCAC Ice Hockey Player of the Week for helping lead Worcester State in a pair of victories last week.

Cahalane, a product of Tewksbury, MA who played juniors for the Laconia Leafs, notched four goals and an assist for the Lancers.

Cahalane started off the week by scoring all four tallies in a 4-1 win over Westfield State before he capped things off by setting-up the game-winning assist in a 5-4 triumph over Salem State that enabled the Lancers to post their first-ever victory over the Vikings in 44 meetings since 1971.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Cahalane ties for the team lead in goals with six, while he is third on the team with 11 points. Nine of his 11 points have also come in MASCAC play. Cahalane has the eighth-best point toal in the conference while he is tied for third in goals.

With 22 goals and 23 assists in 59 career games, he is five points away from becoming the 55th member of the 50 point club.

WSU currently has a 5-2-3 record and they are tied with UMass Dartmouth for first in the MASCAC with a record of 4-1-1 under 19th year head coach John Guiney.

The Lancers have posted their first winning record by the end of December since the 1997-98 season. That team finished with a 13-12 record and participated in the ECAC North-Central-South Tournament.

The Blue and Gold will play again during the winter break at Becker on January 6 at 12:50 PM.
