Framingham State, Ice Hockey Skate To 3-3 Tie In Overtime

Auburn, MA --- Framingham State junior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) netted the game-tying goal with 35 seconds remaining in regulation as Worcester State and the Rams played to a 3-3 draw in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at Horgan Memorial Rink.

Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, the Lancers (5-10-1, 2-7-1 MASCAC) scored twice in the frame to take over the one-goal advantage late in the contest.

Junior Derek Serbon (Crown Point, IN) blasted a shot from the top of the point for a short-handed marker at 9:51 and then Serbon fed sophomore Brenton Dyok (Rocklin, CA) a pass from the left circle to help put the hosts up 3-2 with 2:24 left to play.

But the Rams (2-12-1, 0-9-1 MASCAC) came charging back as they unleashed several shots over the next several minutes of play in an attempt to even the score.

Following a timeout with 59 ticks remaining, the visitors continued their barrage and finally found success when Miressi hit a rocket past the netminder for his team-leading 13th goal of the season.

Miressi was assisted on the play by sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) and junior Eric Ward (Haverhill, MA).

Worcester State originally staked the early 1-0 advantage when freshman Joseph Sodergren (Tewksbury, MA) found the back of the net with his first collegiate tally, just 3:47 into the contest.

The Rams, however, responded less than 1½ minutes later as junior Jay Nicholls (Middleton, MA) wristed an attempt from near the blue line for his sixth goal of the campaign with the extra man advantage.

FSU freshman Rich Hill (Tampa, FL) helped the visitors score the only goal of the second period with 17:10 off the clock for the first marker of his career.

First-year goalie Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA) stopped 33 of the 36 shots he saw on the evening to earn the third star for the Lancers. Junior Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) collected 24 saves in the draw for the Rams.

Neither team took advantage of their power play opportunities. For the contest, the Blue and Gold were 0-for-5 and Framingham State was just 1-of-7.

The Rams led in shots, 36-27, and held a 27-20 edge after the second stanza.

Worcester State continues MASCAC play when they host Plymouth State on Saturday at 4:30. The Rams take the weekend off, but will entertain Western New England on Tuesday at 7:20 PM.
