Keene State Defeats Men's Soccer with Overtime Penalty Kick, 1-0

Worcester, MA --- Junior midfielder Scott Cluff (Kingston, MA) hit the game-winning penalty shot in overtime to help lift visiting Keene State, 1-0, over Worcester State in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday evening. The shot, scored in the 96th minute, broke a scoreless tie and capped off a second half that saw the Owls hold a 22-3 edge in shots.

With the win, Keene State improves their record to 3-3-2 while the Lancers fall to 4-2-2.

Both teams had their opportunity to score in the first stanza, but neither team could get anything going after 45 minutes of play. The period ended with the Owls holding a slight 11-7 advantage in shots.

The second half saw Keene State shoot a flurry of attempts as they were led by senior forward Alex Horne (Harvard, MA) and freshman midfielder Eric Johnson (Quincy, MA) who each ended the stanza with eight and seven shots, respectively.

Worcester State had a perfect opportunity to score the go-ahead goal in the 76th minute when senior forward Brian Andrade (Hudson, MA) hit home a marker into the net, but the Lancers were called for offside's which nullified the goal.

WSC sophomore Daniel Hansen (Worcester, MA) was outstanding as he stopped 9 of the 11 shots he faced while his counterpart, junior Peter Kersker (Beverly, MA), posted his second shutout of the season to go along with four saves.

Both teams will play conference opponents on Saturday. Worcester State will host MCLA at 6 PM while Keene State in-state rival Plymouth State at 4:30.
