How it Happened:
The first half of the Worcester State vs Clark soccer game was scoreless, with both teams creating several chances but coming up empty. The Cougar's Charles Lopez's shot would hit the post, and William Lopez's hit the crossbar, while Worcester State's junior Christian Munoz (Pawtucket, RI) had a header saved by Clark's goalie, Diego Marin. Both teams would make several tactical substitutions in a bid to change their attack, but expected determination from both sides in this city battle made each team highly attuned to each other's adjustments. Despite the lack of scoring on the attack the defense was balanced for the fight as Lancer goalie, sophomore Zach Nelson (Geneso, NY), made several great saves to keep the score tied at 0 entering halftime.
The second half saw Clark come out full throttle and take ownership of the scoreboard quick and fast. Clark's Lopez opened the scoring with the first goal of the game, followed up by Ben Siegel's goal assisted by Lopez. Lucas Saia would add a third goal to pad the lead to 3-0 Clark University within the opening 20 minutes of the second half . Despite the Lancers making several in game substitutions, the team was unable to apply enough pressure on Clark's defense to break through on the scoreboard even with their full force and determination on display in the second half as they worked to cut into the lead. Clark would go on to score their fourth and final goal as Nico Carrillo knocked his shot into the goal, the sole entry allowed in the Lancers keeper substitution to sophomore Tobias Shneider (Hudson, WI). Worcester would hold strong in the game, but the Cougars' amped up offensive attack was just too much after a hard fought opening 45 minutes to counter into scoring success. Worcester would end the game with two shots on goal while Clark would claim 10.
Nelson would end the night with three saves with Schneider adding an additional three of his own to the action.
What's Next:
