Gary Jusseaume enters his second season as an assistant coach for the men’s track & field and cross country team.

Coach Jusseaume previously served as the Head Coach and Director for Operations for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field at Assumption from 2007-10, after having served as an assistant coach from 2002-07.

Jusseaume first served as the head coach of the cross country and track & field at Assumption from 1975-82. It was during his first stint that he created an indoor track & field program for both the men and the women. He also developed the women’s cross country and track & field programs, which gained varsity status.

During both tenures at Assumption, Jusseaume’s athlete shattered and reset virtually every school cross country and track & field record numerous times. Several female and male athletes competed in at the NCAA Division II National Championships in cross country and track & field. Three distinguished student-athletes to date has been inducted into Assumptions prestigious Hall of Fame.

While coaching at Assumption, Jusseaume served as the head coach of the Worcester boys and girls track and field teams that competed at the National Youth Games held in Detroit. The next year he would work as a middle-distance coach at the 1976 Freindship Games in Jamaica and he would turn down a USTF offer to coach in Saudi Arabia in order to remain at Assumption.

Jusseaume’s coaching experience began at Marlboro High where his men’s cross country teams went unbeaten and won successive Midland League titles. His indoor and outdoor track & field teams earned league titles as well. Jusseaume was also responsible for creating the first girls cross country and track & field teams at Marlboro.

Between his two stints at Assumption, Jusseaume coached track and field at Maynard High where his teams posted perfect seasons and won four Mid-Wach C League Championships. 

Jusseaume is a retired high school AP English/Creative Writing teacher and former WBZ-TV Investigative news field-producer. He received his degree from WSU in 1973, an MA degree in English, and an MA in Journalism from Indiana University – Bloomington. Coupled with extensive coaching experience, Jusseaume is a Level I certified USA Track & Field coach.

Jusseaume is a member of the Lancer Hall of Fame having competed on the Worcester State cross country and track & field teams from 1969-73 under legendary coach Richard “Okie” O’Connor. He is also a member of the Greater Boston Track Club.

Jusseaume resides in Marlboro with his son Peter who is currently a senior at Assumption. Peter competes on the cross country team and as a middle-distance runner he captains the track & field team.
