Shawn McCabe began as an assistant coach of the men’s and women’s track & field teams prior to the 2014-15 season, primarily serving as the throws coach.

Recently, the throwing events have shown great success and have been proven to be one of the strongest areas of the program.

This past year, McCabe coached one All-American in the weight throw and coached two All-Americans the year before. During the 2015-16 season, he had two student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in five different events. The top performers include Samuel Weeks, Stephanie McFadries, and Marcus Vieira.

Weeks was an eight-time MASCAC Champion, six-time Alliance Champion, and a 2017 All-American in the discus throw. McFadries was an All-American in the javelin throw in her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division III outdoor track & field championships in 2017. Vieira earned All-American status in the weight throw at the 2018 NCAA Division III indoor track & field championships.

As a former Lancer from the 2010 through 2014, McCabe enjoyed success as a thrower while also serving in a leadership role as a team co-captain.

During the course of his career, McCabe earned All-MASCAC accolades twice in the weight throw.

In the outdoor season of his senior year, McCabe capped off his final semester with second overall in the hammer throw at the MASCAC outdoor meet while also earning All-New England Alliance honors in the event.

McCabe holds a USATF Level I coaching certification and also a USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning Specialization certification.
