Sliwoski Moves Up Two Spots, Finishes 14th Overall In NCAA Division III Decathlon

 

Canton, NY –- Senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) registered 14th place with 6,157 points in the decathlon on the second day of the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence.

Sliwoski had the third-best javelin throw for a season best 169-10 (51.78 meters) to go along with the eighth-longest discus throw (117-11/35.95m). He was also 15th in the 110 meter hurdles (16.08), tied for 14th in the pole vault (11-9.75/3.60m) and he wrapped up his day timing 5:07.77 in the 1,500.

Not only did Sliwoski move up two slots from his day one total, but he was the second highest finisher from a New England institution as he just beat out junior Dominic Esposito (Massepequa, NY) of Babson who was 15th (6,120 points).

Sliwoski entered the field as the 15th seed with a school record total of 6,292 points set on May 1 at the Division III New England Championships. He received his fourth-career All-New England accolade, finishing second to senior Adam Wainman (Glastonbury, CT) of Bates, who placed third in the NCAA decathlon.

 


 

Day 1 Release

 

Canton, NY --- After five events, senior Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) has registered 3,210 points to settle for 16th out of 20 entrants in the decathlon on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by St Lawrence.

Sliwoski is still within distance of placing, just 282 away from eighth, and he is 673 points off of senior Brandon Zarnoth (Appleton, WI) of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, who leads the pack.

He kicked off his run with the 14th best 100 meters for a career split (11.38) before tossing the 12th longest shot put (38-4.75/11.70 meters) for the longest effort on the campaign. He also equaled 12th in the high jump (5-9.25/1.76m), recorded the 15th-best 400 (52.68) and was 18th in the long jump (19-2.75/5.86m).

The final five events of the decathlon start at 12 PM tomorrow.
