Defending Champion Women's Soccer Picked Second in MASCAC Preseason Poll

2021 MASCAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's soccer team has been selected to finish second in the league as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference released its Preseason Poll on Wednesday afternoon.

Westfield State University, which won the MASCAC Regular Season Championship in 2019, finished atop the poll, garnering 49 points and seven first place votes. Worcester State received 41 points and the final remaining first place vote to finish second.

Tied for third were Bridgewater State and Salem State with 35 points apiece. The Lancers defeated Bridgewater State in the 2019 MASCAC Championship game on a double overtime goal by Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.), who returns to the Worcester State lineup for her senior season in 2021.

Rounding out the poll in positions five through eight respectively were Framingham State, Fitchburg State, MCLA, and Mass. Maritime.

The Lancers will be back on the pitch to begin their 2021 season on Wednesday, September 1 against Wheaton at Coughlin Field. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
