Mens and Women's Indoor Track Highlights From All-New England Championships

Boston, MA --- Freshman Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) notched 14th in the 200 meter dash with a time of :26.00 seconds to eclipse the school record while sophomore Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) earned All-New England top honors in the long jump (5.36 meters) to help lead the women's indoor track and field team to tie for 22nd at the All-New England championships, hosted by Boston University.

The men did not place, but still had some outstanding performances against top flight Division I and II competition. They were paced by sophomore Nate Starling (Braintree, MA) who qualified for the semifinals of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.96 and he will be seeded 16th.

Senior teamates James Macera (Paxton, MA) and Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) each placed 13th in the weight throw (15.73m) and the long jump (6.42m), respectively, while Starling capped of the day taking home 20th in the 55 (6.68).

Wise eclipsed the mark that was set at Smith College by Mara Kralian earlier this season (26.30) while she also clocked 23rd in the 55 (7.50).


On the second day of the All-New Englands, Arnold distinguished herself as she provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with a leap of 11.29 meters in the triple jump which was good for 11th place. Junior Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) was right behind her as she took home 18th (10.94m).

Starling finished 14th overall in the semifinals of the 55 meter hurdles as he ran a time of 7.99.

The women's team notched 33rd place with one team point while the men did not place.

The Lancers finish off their indoor season next week at the ECAC Championships hosted by Smith.
