MASCAC Results | New England Alliance Results
Gorham, ME --- Worcester State women’s indoor track team
took home six conference titles – five of them the best times
or lengths in the New England Alliance – as the Lancers won
their first ever MASCAC Championship this afternoon at the
University of Southern Maine.
WSC notched 190 points as Westfield State was right behind with
172 points followed by Bridgewater State (92), Fitchburg State (67)
and Salem State (17). The Blue and Gold also finished in second
place in the Alliance, along with the teams from the Little East
Conference, just 16 points away from the hosting Huskies top point
total of 154.
Sophomore Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) tallied
first in the long jump (5.38 meters) and the triple jump (11.15m)
in the Alliance and MASCAC while freshman Brianna
Wise (Worcester, MA/Doherty) added top Alliance and
conference finishes in the 55 meter dash (7.44) and 200 (26.35).
Wise's 200 time set the meet record while finish in the 55 smashed
the MASCAC record held by teamate Nikki Lemelin
(Beverly, MA), when she competed for Salem State in 2008.
The other conference champion’s included freshman
Leah Walczak (Whitinsville, MA) in the 400 with a
time of 1:00.47 while classmate Cathy Chude
(Marlboro, MA) took first in the 55 meter hurdles (8.86). Chaude
also ended the meet placing second in the shot put (11.37m) as her
time in the hurdles eclipsed the MASCAC mark in the event.
In the field, freshman Rose Mathieu (Somerville,
MA) recorded second (5.13m) in the long jump followed by Wise in
third (5.12m) and junior Andrea Ouellette
(Salisbury, MA) in fourth (4.93m). Mathieu's distance in the long
jump was also good for second in the Alliance. Ouellette chaulked
up of second in the triple jump (10.81m) as freshman Court
McCarthy (Worcester, MA) cleared third in the pole vault
(2.13m).
Walczak leaped fourth in the high jump (1.45m) and Arnold capped
off her day with fifth in the event with a height of 1.45 meters.
Freshman Victoria Reizner (Southboro, MA) and
third-year Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA)
each finished in third place in the shot put (10.09m) and weight
throw (12.62m), respectively.
The sprinters had a solid day as Lemelin placed third in the 55
(7.65) and 200 (27.58) while classmate Sarah
Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) added fourth in the 200 (27.64)
and fifth in the 55 (7.74). Walczak ended her tremendous day taking
home fifth in the 200 (27.96) as second-year Alicia
Ryan (Townsend, MA) tacked on fourth in the 55 (7.67).
In the 55 meter hurdles freshman Kyle McElroy
(Rutland, MA) crossed the line in second (9.16) followed by
Ouellette, who was in third (9.21), while first-year
Natalie Marchi (Northbridge, MA) tacked on fourth
in the 400 (1:05.10)
Sophomore Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) paced the
distance corps with fourth in the 1,000 with a time of 3:18.64 as
classmate Maura Withington (West Palm Beach, FL)
finished fourth in the 600 (1:49.93). Second-year Kacy
Gillis (Mansfield, MA) placed fifth in the 600 (1:50.60)
as freshman Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) rounded
out the group with fifth overall in the 3,000 (11:39.06).
In relay action, Withington, Plant along with freshman teammates
Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) and Nicole
Boudreau (S. Windsor, MA) notched a third place in
the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:40.25. McElroy, Walczak,
Marchi and freshman Steph Muse (Chelmsford, MA)
set the MASCAC and school record in the 4x400 meter relay as they
clocked second (4:17.05).
Select Lancers who have qualified return to Gorham for the
Division III New England Champoinships next Saturday.
