Strong Sprints, Field Events Pace Women's Track To Fourth At UNH Invitational

 

Durham, NH --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) placed second in both the 55 meter dash (7.33) and 200 meter dash (26.17) while senior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) won the long jump (5.21m/17-01.25) as they helped lead the Worcester State women's indoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish at the UNH Invitational this afternoon.

Holy Cross took home first place with 172.5 points followed by the hosting Wildcats (169.5), Stonehill (112) and the Lancers (108).

In the field, sophomore Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed second in the shot put (11.63m/38-02) followed by freshman Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) who added fifth (10.85m/35-07.25).

First-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) also finished third in the long jump (5.11m/16-09.25) as sophomore teammates Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) both took home fourth (1.45m/4-09) and fifth (1.45m/4-09) in the high jump, respectively.

Freshman Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) paced the sprinters with third in the 400 (1:02.85) while second-year Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) was fourth in the 55 (7.42) and fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.75). Kralian tallied fifth in the 55 (7.45) as Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) came across the finish line in sixth in the 200 (27.66).

Taylor and freshman Kaitlyn Haselton (Attleboro, MA) were both seconds apart in the 500 in fifth (1:24.57) and sixth (1:25.15), respectively. Sophomore Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) registered eighth in the 800 (2:29.45) and junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) wasn't too far behind in 10th (2:31.74).

The 4x400 meter relay team of Hodgerney, Taylor along with freshman teammates Kim West (Harvard, MA) and Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) tallied fourth with a time of 4:17.85.

Next week select Lancers will compete at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on Friday while the rest of the squad will participate in the MIT Invitational.
