Women's Indoor Track Places 18th At Open New Englands

Boston, MA --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) earned Open New England accolades as they both helped lead Worcester State to a finish at 18th at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Boston University. For her efforts this past week Wise has been named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week.

The Lancers scored 13 points for the fifth-highest total for a Division III school as it also eclipsed the school-mark for points scored at the meet.

Wise becomes the first female and the third Worcester State student-athlete to earn an indoor New England title as Stanley Egbor accomplished the feat in 2001 in the 200 and Rich Riley did it in 1974 in the 440 yard dash.

Wise eclipsed the 200 for the fourth time this season with a blistering time of 24.40 while she also added seventh place in the 60 (7.83) for All-New England honors.

Deininger impressed as she took home eighth place for All-New England laurels in the 60 meter hurdles (9.00) for the best time for a Division III studen-athlete. Deiningers fastest time of the in the hurdles weekend came in the semifinals as she earned the right to run in the sixth lane with a time of 8.99.

The 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and freshman teammates Kim West (Harvard, MA), Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) and Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) placed 20th with a new program record of 4:03.55.

Deininger also clocked 12th in the 60 (7.95) to round out the finishers on the final day.

Select Lancers will compete next week at the ECAC Division III Championships at the NYC Armory.

 


Fridays Release

Boston, MA --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) and sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) qualified for the semifinals or finals in their respective events as they helped pace the women's indoor track and field team at the Open New Englands on Friday hosted by Boston University.

Wise reset her own school record with the top time in the 200 meters (24.73) as she will hold the #1 seed heading into the finals. Wise's previous time of 25.06 came last month at the Terrier Invitational which was at BU.

Wise also came in seventh in the 60 meters (7.82) while Deiniger clocked 14th in the same event (7.93) before adding a time of 9.21 in the 60 meter hurdles in 15th place. They will both run this afternoon in the semifinals.

Sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) finished 12th in the 500 (1:19.14) and senior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) had the 28th best time in the 60 (8.12).

Second-year Cathy Chude (Marlboro, MA) came in 29th in the 60 meter hurdles.
